PAARAS ABBAS x KHANABADOSH BAITHAK
NATURAL COLOURS
RESIDENCY
23rd ~ 29th May 2026
Gojal, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan
Khanabadosh Baithak and Paaras Abbas bring you a residency rooted in the land, where we slow down and make art in collaboration with our surroundings.
Through guided explorations and taught workshops, you will learn the features of this remote and rich terrain: its plants and soil, and their multiple uses.
You will be taught how to make natural dyes, watercolour paints from rocks, prints with local flowers and seeds; all the while reflecting on your journey through walks, shared meals, and discussions.
The residency centres the voices of communities across Gojal. We see this as essential and part of a wider commitment to nurturing exchange that is reciprocal, situated, and led by the land itself.
We will be a small group, working intimately with our surroundings. We aim to tread lightly, listen deeply, and uphold a practice rooted in respect and responsibility. If this speaks to you, come join us.

Residency Location
Residency Hosts
Baneen Mirza
Baneen is a photographer and co-founder of Khanabadosh Baithak, a communal space in Gilgit-Baltistan and a lived inquiry into the relationship between travel, sustainability, and indigenous wisdoms. With a focus on food, ecological practices, and the kitchen as a site of knowledge, she extends this inquiry through visual and edible mediums to explore what it means to live and learn in relation to land and its people.
Paaras Abbas
Paaras is a Karachi-born London-based artist. She conducts ethnographic research with craft communities in Sindh and beyond, documenting traditional practices like natural dyeing, block printing and embroidery. In her practice, Paaras explores the potential for colour in her surroundings and the limits of the materials she encounters. Flowers used for eco-printing are repurposed in paper made from recyclables, dyes from food waste are further processed into pigment for inks and paint.
